Claudia Burcke, Managing Director, Business Development

Claudia Burcke currently serves as Managing Director of Business Development for Greater Rochester Enterprise. Ms. Burcke is responsible for managing relationships with C-Level corporate executives, site selectors, local developers and regional economic development officials in order to attract and retain businesses to the nine-county Greater Rochester Region. In addition, Claudia collaborates with local partners to support innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation and economic growth.

Claudia is a native Rochesterian and is very active in the local community. She is Vice President of Community Relations for the Junior League of Rochester, serves as Secretary for the NextGen Rochester Advisory Board, and is a current board member for the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation. She is also a member of the RocCity Coalition Advisory Committee and the Monroe County Superintendent's Public Education Advocacy Committee.

Along with these activities, Ms. Burcke volunteers her time to other groups such as the Flower City Habitat for Humanity, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and various volunteer and philanthropic activities through many local organizations such as Rochester Young Professionals, the Salvation Army, Foodlink, Junior Achievement, Lollypop Farm and the Seneca Park Zoo Society. In March 2012, Claudia followed a life-long dream and volunteered at an elephant sanctuary in South Africa through an organization called Edge of Africa.

Ms. Burcke is a member of the United Way Young Leaders Society and the Women's Leadership Council. She was a 2008 Recipient of the Rochester Women's Network "Up and Coming Businesswoman" Award, and a 2011 Recipient of Rochester Business Journals "Forty Under 40" Award. Claudia earned her Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Economics from Western New England College in Springfield, MA.



Winona Dixon, Research Analyst

Winona Dixon joined GRE in June 2003 as the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. She currently serves as a Research Analyst. In addition to her research duties, Winona also manages GRE's IT systems as well as numerous site search requests and development of proposals for national site selectors.

Winona holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and a Masters Degree in Management and Information Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology, and is a graduate of the United Way's African American Leadership Development Program.


















Stephanie Fernandez, Administrative Assistant

Stephanie Fernandez joined GRE in April 2011 as Administrative Assistant. Stephanie manages all incoming calls and visitors as well as a variety of tasks for the GRE team, including appointments, meetings, correspondence, and document management.

Prior to joining GRE, Stephanie served as an Administrative Assistant at several companies in Upstate NY and the Southern Tier: G.A. Braun, IBM, Exit Realty and Nelson Development; and brings with her a variety of administrative experience in the fields of manufacturing, real estate, and building renovation.

Stephanie earned her Associate in Applied Science degree from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY.


Leah George, International Trade Associate

Leah George joined the GRE team in 2012 as an International Trade Associate. A Finger Lakes native, with a passion for the region, Leah spent a decade reporting on the issues, trends and change agents that make the nine-county Rochester Region one of the best places to live, work, get a degree, and raise a family.

Leah was awarded several prestigious honors for her work in television news, including an Edward R. Murrow Award and several National Press Photographers Association Awards (NPPA) for coverage of breaking, news, hard news, in-depth and feature stories.

Leah graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a B.A. in communications, public relations and business. She is an M.B.A. candidate at St. John Fisher College with a concentration in global context.

Leah served as Diversity and Inclusion Lead while at Time Warner Cable's YNN Rochester news division.

She is a volunteer board member at The YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County.









Staci Henning, Vice President, Marketing & Communications
 
Staci Henning brings more than 25 years of marketing experience to her role as Vice President, Marketing & Communications. She is responsible for all aspects of GRE's marketing strategy and creative development including advertising, corporate communications, Internet marketing, and public relations.

Staci also co-produces a weekly radio show, Eyes on the Future, every Saturday morning at 10 am on WHAM -1180.

Prior to joining GRE in November 2004, Staci served as Corporate Advertising and Branding Manager for The PNC Financial Services Group in Pittsburgh, PA. During her tenure at PNC, Staci managed marketing programs to reposition PNC's brand as well as promote the company's personal banking, corporate banking and investment services.

Before entering the world of financial services, Staci worked as a Marketing Manager and Advertising Manager at MCI WorldCom in Arlington, VA. She managed numerous broadcast advertising campaigns for MCI Friends & Family as well as other MCI branded services.

Staci's marketing campaigns have garnered industry awards for creativity as well as generating business results.

A Rochester native, Staci holds a Bachelors Degree in Advertising from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.




Matt Hurlbutt, Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Matt Hurlbutt serves as Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at Greater Rochester Enterprise with responsibility for attracting new business to Rochester. Matt works directly with corporate executives and national site selectors as they consider locations for investment and job creation. In addition, Matt collaborates with local partners to leverage the region's assets in order to support innovation and economic growth.

Prior to joining GRE in 2008, Matt served as Managing Director of Finger Lakes Wired. Finger Lakes Wired, with RochesterWorks, Inc. as the lead agency, was awarded $15 million through the US Department of Labor's WIRED Initiative in 2006. The partnership represented 21 organizations in the nine county region dedicated to transforming the regional economy.

Matt also served as Executive Director of RochesterWorks, Inc. from 2000 to 2008, where he guided the creation of the non-profit corporation and the workforce development system from concept to implementation, designing its products and services.  

In 2001, Matt was named to the "40 under 40" list by the Rochester Business Journal. He is also a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society of Public Affairs and Administration. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree from State University of New York College at Brockport and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, State University of New York College at Geneseo.



Ana Liss, Business Development Associate
Ana Liss joined the GRE team as a Business Development Associate in February 2012. Before coming to GRE, Ana performed research and consulting work for local governments across New York State as a Research Associate for the Rochester-based Center for Governmental Research (CGR). Also at CGR, Ana helped to steer marketing, communications, and sales initiatives.

Ana holds a Masters in Public Administration (M.P.A.) from the University of Pennsylvania. While in graduate school, Ana served as a Graduate Research Intern and Fellow for the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, and she was the Executive Director of the University of Pennsylvania Public Policy Challenge, an interdisciplinary student competition.

From 2007-2009, Ana was the anchor of WETM 18 News Today on Elmira, NY's NBC affiliate, and a reporter for Rochester's 13 WHAM News. Ana's undergraduate degree is a B.A. in Journalism from Ithaca College's Park School of Communications. She hails from Pittsford, NY.


Mark S. Peterson, President & CEO

Mark S. Peterson has an outstanding background in regional economic development, financial administration, and high-value fund raising. Recruited to join Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE) as Managing Director in 2005, Mark was named President & CEO in early 2009 and charged with the continued creation and execution of GRE's strategic plan.

Mark has proven himself to be a strong advocate for the Greater Rochester Region, building a reputation amongst his colleagues as an exceptional leader and proactive change agent. He is strongly invested in promoting the area, attracting quality businesses, and changing lives through job creation. A natural problem solver, Mark has true talent for connecting people with appropriate resources to generate results.

Previous roles have included President at Bishop Kearney High School, Chief Operating Officer at Telecomp, Inc., Director of Major Gifts at Hiram College, and Vice President at Philanthropy Management, Inc.

A certified fund raising executive (CFRE) since 1992, Mark has an impressive history of garnering substantial monies at several first-class nonprofit organizations totaling more than $120 million. In 2009 Mark was honored as the Robert A. Clinger Outstanding Professional Fundraiser by the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. An engaging public speaker and conference presenter, Mark delivers up to 60 speeches annually.

Mark received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint John Fisher College in 1983 and went on to earn his Master of Business Administration in Kent State University's Executive MBA Program in 1994. In addition to his duties at GRE, Mark is active on many community boards. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for Continuing Developmental Services (CDS), one of the largest non-profit organizations in the region.

















Haley Rotter, Business Development Associate

Haley Rotter joined GRE in 2013 as a Business Development Associate. She is reponsible for providing on-the-ground outreach and support to promote the value of energy efficiency, sustainable growth practices, clean energy technologies, and innovations. By working with the team at GRE, Haley will be developing and fostering strategic partnerships with economic development organizations, businesses, and industrial groups to raise awareness of and participation in NYSERDA's assistance programs.

Haley worked previously for the Center for Environmental Initiatives, representing NYSERDA's "Energy $mart Communities" program. She brings value to GRE through her experience in the energy efficiency industry and established relationships with regional stakeholders.

Haley graduated from State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Relations. After college, she participated in an internship program in Mendocino County, CA at the Solar Living Institute, where she learned about sustainability practices and renewable energy technologies. She is currently a member of the Rochester Young Professionals and the Upstate Green Business Network and volunteers for local non-profit organizations such as Lollypop Farms and Flower City Habitat for Humanity.


Laurie Smith, Executive Assistant to the President & CEO

Laurie Smith joined GRE in December 2008 as Executive Assistant to Mark S. Peterson, GRE's President and CEO.

Prior to joining GRE, Laurie served as Executive Assistant to the President of North America & Global Operations at
Harris Interactive, a global market research firm based in Rochester, while also supporting their Brand, Communications and Consulting team.

Laurie brings with her a multi-faceted background from the fields of market research, academia, sales and marketing, and security systems wholesale distribution - with experience in finance administration, program and event coordination, institutional advancement and federal governmental relations, as well as eight years of marketing and graphic design experience.

Laurie earned her Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration with Distinction from Monroe Community College.
