RIT’s Cybersecurity Leaders Discuss Election Security

Cybersecurity Threats and Solutions

RIT Cybersecurity experts Justin Pelletier and Matthew Wright discuss potential cybersecurity challenges to look out for during the upcoming election and beyond.

There are several cybersecurity concerns, especially phishing attacks targeting election officials and voters, which cybercriminals use to disrupt the election process. The experts emphasized the danger of deepfakes, which can manipulate public opinion. RIT has a deepfake detector in the works that can be used to analyze the authenticity of media.

Additionally, RIT has a Cyber Range and Training Center that offers training for corporate leaders and IT professionals on how to respond to cyberattacks. Matthew and Justin stress the importance of slowing down to verify information with trusted media outlets before sharing and believing anything you see online.
